Ian Dogole, Multipercussionist

For over 20 years, Ian Dogole has articulated his vision of Global Fusion Music as a multipercussionist, bandleader, composer, recording artist, producer and educator. He has released three records -- Along the Route, Dangerous Ground, and Ionospheres, with a fourth, Night Harvest, soon to be released. He has also recorded and performed throughout the U.S. with artists such as Hamza El Din, Shafqat Ali Khan, Alex DeGrassi, Paul McCandless, Ancient Future, Karen Bentley, Kate Price, Steven Halpern and Dmitri Matheny, among others. In addition to his own recordings, Dogole's compositions can be found on recordings by Ancient Future. His compositions have also been used by the San Francisco Giants, the Philadelphia Phillies, Brown University and the Indonesian Park Service, just to name a few.

Dogole's arsenal of global percussion instruments includes: udu, cajon, talking drums, mbiras, hang, balafon, caxixi, dholak, dumbek, cymbals and many more. He received a Jazz Performance Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1991 and Marin Arts Council grants in 1994, 1995 and 1998 for his educational program, Adventures in Global Fusion Music. In the winter/spring of 2001, he presented educational programs to more than 7,000 students in San Francisco as part of the San Francisco Symphony's Adventures in Music program. Dogole was featured as the September 1992 cover story of Jazz Now magazine. He is currently writing feature articles and reviews for JazzTimes Magazine and at the 2001 IAJE Conference in New York City, he presented a panel entitled Jazz Across All Borders, which included world-renowned musicians Randy Weston, Richard Bona and Kahil El Zabar.
